Need a last-minute Halloween costume idea? I have been there, I mean, I’m pretty sure every parent has..Here are some musical-themed ones that are easy to pull together.
Halloween is the perfect time to dress up as a rock star. Whether you want to be David Bowie or Freddie Mercury, there are plenty of costume ideas that let you show off your musical prowess this Halloween. But there are also a few more “unique” but totally fun ways to show your love of music on October 31st.
We've collected some of our favorite music-themed costumes here for inspiration so that you don’t have to think too hard. Especially if you're a mom like me and needed to change things up the night before:
Music is one of the best ways to express your personality and interests. Halloween is a great time for music lovers to show off their musical knowledge, and why not do it in costume form?
Rocker
If you're looking for a rocker costume, look no further than the nearest Halloween store (or even a thrift store, if you're a thrifter like me. They are usually made from leather and reveal most of the body, so they are short on coverage and long on attitude.
Rocker costumes come in every color imaginable: red, white, or black. Rockers tend to be very tight fitting with lots of fringe and accessories like chains and other jewelry. Honestly, there are so many ways to trick or treat as a rocker. You just need spiked hair, a leather jacket, and a blow-up guitar and you’re good to go.
If you want to find one that fits your personality better than any other costume, then this is it!
Your favorite music artist or band member -
You can go with your favorite band or musician. So many out there have some very specific looks. From Elton John to Ed Sheeran, find what makes their outfits stand out and make that a staple. If you don't know much about them, research them first so that you can make an accurate representation of their style. Then get creative with creating a unique outfit that matches their look! You could also go as someone else on stage who interacted with them while they were performing (like Taylor Swift) because that reference never gets old.
British invasion band
If you're a lover of the British invasion, this Halloween costume will be right up your alley. It's simple to put together and very trendy, too.
The easiest way to get started is by choosing one or two of the following British bands: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, or The Kinks. You can find plenty of inspiration on Pinterest if you want more ideas for how to dress up as any of these bands! If you're feeling particularly ambitious (and have access to a sewing machine), consider making your own costumes from scratch instead of buying them online. Get that red and blue flag on your shirt and have fun trying out an accent.
Flapper
Flappers were a group of women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, smoked, drank, and danced to jazz music. They were associated with the jazz age. The jazz age was a period of time when people were more relaxed and had more fun after World War 1 ended. Jazz music started in African American communities in New Orleans but quickly spread to other areas like Chicago and New York City where it became very popular. It's still heard today at World Series games!
There are many different types of flapper costumes that you can make yourself:
Sparkly headband
Dramatic eyeshadow
Curl the hair and pin it underneath.
Grab a shiny dress and some simple shoes and you are good to go.
If you love music and you want to show it off on Halloween, there are so many costume ideas that can help you do just that. The costumes from this list are great for couples or groups, but some of them also work well for a solo outfit too! Whether you like to rock out or dance all night long, there’s something here for everyone.
Rock that Broadway style.
Yes, I have 100% gone as a broadway character more than once. (though I haven’t been bold enough to paint my whole face green for Wicked). I’ve been known to rock a few Guys and Dolls-themed costumes in my past.
Don’t worry, “A Bushel and a Peck” is not the only costume idea I have for you. (though that is a good one.)
Dear Evan Hansen has taken the world by storm in the last few years and with the movie that was released not too long ago… it makes for a pretty easy costume. Make an at-home blue cast, rock a polo and you’re already halfway there. Maybe carry around a window that you can “wave through” if you really want to be creative at the last minute.
The King
Now, I know this isn’t exactly a unique one, but if you are in a pinch, it’s pretty easy to throw a white shirt on... Bedazzle it a little, and slip on some white pants or maybe a leather jacket for the earlier looks. Elvis is a pretty quick and easy go-to especially for men. Run to the store and a black wig is probably still in stock, even if it's the night before.
